SORSI-EBRN Case Report Proposal

Scientific investigation begins with observation and the accurate recording of those observations.  Correlating this information, one then develops a theory to explain the phenomenon being observed.  One fundamental tenet of science is that any viable theory must include all observable facts related to the subject.

Therefore, in order to develop a theory of healing, we must take into account many observed phenomena.  When I was a student at Logan College of Chiropractic, I personallywitnessed my instructor turn fire-red sunburn on a fellow classmate completely brown in less than 15 minutes utilizing a Logan Basic Technique adjustment.  I observed Major Bertrand De Jarnette D.C. help a man take his first steps following a stroke by utilizing one of his cranial techniques along with cerebral spinal fluid directing.  This was witnessed by hundreds of people on stage at a seminar in Omaha, Nebraska.

Practitioners of every healing art, including chiropractic, witness events on a daily basis that do not conform to traditional theories and constructs.  In order to have a responsible theory of healing, all of these phenomena must be taken into account.

"Science is not a set of beliefs that one constructs.  Instead, scientists observe nature, then develop theories that describe their observations.  Science is driven by nature itself, and nature gives us no choice.  It is what it is.

As new facts emerge, scientific theories can be proved wrong or in need of modification, but scientists cannot ignore them.  And eventually the facts will lead to the right theory."

-Professor Meg Urry, Department Chair of Physics at Yale University

The SORSI founder, Major Bertrand De Jarnette D.C., was truly a research scientist.  He investigated the human body and the healing mechanism thoroughly.  He incorporated every observed phenomenon into the theory of SOT chiropractic.  One’s innate energy is ultimately responsible for the healing.  The cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and the Dura as well as neurological function all have intimate relationships with innate energy.  The craniosacral mechanism and its association with the Dura motivate CSF, along with focus and intent.  The constructs of SOT chiropractic take into account all observations realized through all types of healing, providing a useful paradigm for chiropractic.

SORSI and SOT practitioners as well as all chiropractic physicians worldwide can assist in Dr. De Jarnette‘scontinuing mission by accumulating observational data that they have experienced with their patients.  Such a database can lend credence and understanding to the paradigm we utilize every day in practice.  It may conceivably help us identify inconsistencies that can lead us to further refinement of our theories and constructs or to new concepts that may more fully explain the healing process.

In many ways such an endeavor would be a worthy effort to which virtually every student and practitioner in the world could contribute.  The format of reporting would be similar to that utilized in case studies for peer-reviewed journals except literature reviews would not be required at this time.  Thorough and accurate reporting, however, is a must.  All submissions would be reviewed by a committee dedicated to this project and can only be accepted upon the official approval of not only the subcommittee but also the SORSI research committee at large.

In this fashion, the SORSI research committee can begin to accumulate large amounts of data concerning Chiropractic and SOT-Craniopathy.  While this is not an accepted research study by stringent medical standards, it is still viable research.  The accumulation of many observations can lead to a different type of case study in the future that may well be more suited for peer-reviewed journal publication.  In other words, if we collect large numbers of case studies involving a specific condition, collectively these observations have greater weight in the scientific community.

Furthermore, this program will allow the average practitioner the ability to become familiar with research reporting.  It gives every doctor and student in the field the ability to participate and to begin a process of legitimizing their observations in a scientific fashion that is truly scientific, even if it does not meet current journal standards.
